Regulation practice DEMONSTRATION

This Is What My Mind Does When I Meditate

A live, follow-along demo to normalize your experience and show you how to meet your inner world. If you’ve ever tried to meditate and felt like you were “failing,” this practice is for you. You’ve been told to “clear your mind”, but for many, that feels like being told to “build a spaceship”—you know the final goal, but you have no instructions on how to get there.

This audio is different. It’s not a typical guided meditation. It’s a live, follow-along demonstration of a real, unscripted regulation practice. You’re invited to listen in on my inner world, to normalize your own experience and learn how to meet the distractions, discomfort, and thoughts that arise.

Why This Practice Is Different

Instead of just giving you instructions, this practice shows you what those instructions look like in real time. We explore the common challenges that pop up – from a tickling nose to feelings of boredom and physical pain – and demonstrate the difference between a dysregulated response (like frustration or a jerky movement) and a regulated response (like meeting the sensation with calm, compassionate awareness).

The goal is to show you that you aren’t “failing” when your mind wanders; you’re just experiencing the normal chatter of your nervous system. This demo gives you a map for navigating it.

What We Explore in This Demo

  • We learn why being told to “just focus on your breath” is often an incomplete instruction.
  • Navigating Distractions: What to do with common sensations like an itchy nose , a twitchy eye , or a strong urge to just stop.
  • Transforming Pain: We’ll observe a dull, uncomfortable pain in the knee and, by meeting it with calm attention, feel it transform into a simple sensation that eventually dissolves.
  • Signs of a Real Shift: Witnessing what can happen when the nervous system feels safe, including natural neurogenic tremors and the shift into a “dreamy,” calm state (Theta brainwaves).

How to Use This Audio

  1. Find a comfortable position, either sitting or lying down, where you can be undisturbed.
  2. Press play and simply follow along with my experience. You don’t have to do anything perfectly.
  3. Use my experience as a guide. When I talk about a distraction, see if you can notice your own. When I practice a regulated response, see if you can practice it with me.
  4. Be compassionate with yourself. You’re learning.
